<description>Speech by His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki, C.G.H., M.P., on Madaraka Day, June 1, 2008
It is my great pleasure to join all of you in celebrating the 45th Madaraka Day. Forty-five years ago, on the historic day of 1st June,1963, we assumed responsibility as Kenyans, in managing the affairs of our Government and country. During this period, we have made impressive gains in the fight against poverty, ignorance, and disease. Kenyans are today better off than they were 45 years ago in many aspects of our nation’s social, economic and political spheres. Further, as a nation, we have always taken responsibility in finding practical and workable solutions when faced with challenges. One such situation was the post-election violence that followed the December, 2007 general elections…

We have gathered here today, to celebrate the 41 st Anniversary of Madaraka Day. We commemorate this occasion because it marks an important turning point in the history of our&#13;
nation. On this memorable occasion, I send warm greetings and best wishes to all Kenyans in the country and abroad. On 1st June, 1963, we took the first step towards self-rule. After a long and hard struggle, Kenyans took charge of the affairs of this nation through their popularly elected leaders. This occasion, therefore, has great historical importance for all of us. It reminds us of our great responsibility to build a united and prosperous country…

<description>Speech by His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki, C.G.H., M.P., on Moi Day, October 20, 2007
It is my pleasure to once again join my fellow countrymen and women in commemorating this year's Kenyatta Day. This is a special day in our national calendar, when we remember our brave countrymen and women who lost their lives in the struggle for uhuru, and all those who made a contribution to the achievement of our independence. We pay tribute to all of them for liberating our country and our people from the yoke of colonialism. I call on all Kenyans to emulate the selflessness of these heroes in sacrificing all that they had for their country and their people. When we gather together as a nation on an occasion such as this, let us also review the progress of our individual as well as national efforts in this regard. We also need to ask ourselves whether our daily actions and efforts are contributing to the well being of this nation and the welfare of our people. We are fortunate to have been bequeathed a beautiful country with diverse cultures, abundant flora and fauna, a beautiful climate and enchanting landscapes. These are resources which if harnessed fully will generate wealth for all our people...

<description>Speech by His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki, C.G.H., M.P., on Jamhuri Day, December 12, 2011
I am pleased to join you all, as we mark the 48th Jamhuri Day. On this important occasion, we&#13;
commemorate the attainment of Kenya's independence. We pay special tribute to the thousands of patriots who played a role in our journey towards freedom and self-rule. I also salute the Kenyan people for their dedication to the responsible management of the affairs of our country. The commemoration of this day provides an opportunity to reflect on the journey we have travelled as a nation. We thank the Almighty God for guiding us and for the many blessings he has bestowed upon our nation. We also reflect on the challenges we face and seek ways of addressing them. Indeed, we are marking this year's Jamhuri day against the backdrop of increased inflationary pressures that have seen the cost of living rise for most Kenyans. Despite the many challenges, we have witnessed significant progress in national development. The Government is now able to fund most of its budget. Annual economic growth jumped formless than one percent in the year 2002 to reach about 5 percent that is projected for this year...

<description>Speech by His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki, C.G.H., M.P., on Jamhuri Day, December 12, 2009
We thank God that in spite of the mixed fortunes we have remained a strong ssovereign and independent nation. We can, therefore, say with cconfidence that the independence we won forty-six years ago is secure, and will endure to the end. I say this, fellow Kenyans, because we have undergone one of the toughest and most difficult years since independence. The recent drought was probably one of the severest in living memory. This was accompanied by a very challenging year for the national and global economy, at a time when our country sought to entrench and accelerate political reforms. The good news is that in facing these challenges, we have done much better than what was expected. Indeed, despite the difficult economic times, the Government mobilized its scarce resources to minimize the impact of severe drought by feeding over 4.5 million people at a cost of over 2 billion shillings per month….

<description>Speech by His Excellency President Mwai Kibaki, C.G.H., M.P., on Madaraka Day, June 1, 2010
Fellow Kenyans, I salute you all on this auspicious occasion of our 47th Madaraka Day. On this day, we remind ourselves of the day in 1963, when we assumed responsibility over the affairs of our country. Today, we remember and appreciate the men and women whose personal sacrifice led to Kenya’s freedom. We also recall the journey we have taken since then, towards making Kenya a free, prosperous and democratic nation. The idea of Madaraka is fundamental to our nationhood and we must never forget that it is our solemn duty to develop Kenya. It is our responsibility to make Kenya a Working and Caring nation, where every individual is given the opportunity to reach their full potential. In turn we can collectively make Kenya a better home for all of us. This responsibility and obligation lie not only with the Government and its leadership, but with every Kenyan…
