<description>Mbeere District Development Plan 2008-2012
Mbeere district is one of the districts that form Eastern Province. The district borders Embu District to the North West. Tharaka district to the North, and Mwingi district to the East. Machakos district to the South and South East and Kirinyaga District to the West. The district lies between latitudes 00 20' and 00 50' south and longitudes 370 16' and 3 70 56 · east. It comes a total area of 2,092.5km2 with a total population of 220,340. The district is sparsely populated with majority of the population concentrated around major market centres like Siakago, Ishiara. Kiritiri. Karaba and Gachoka. These areas have developed infrastructure and have good potential for business enterprises.

The Rural Planning Directorate of the Ministry of Planning National Development and Vision 2030 has over · the years facilitate~ and given guidance on the preparation of District Development Plans.&#13;
This is the 8th Embu District Development Plan (DDP) for the period 2008 - 2012 that was prepared by the District Departmental Heads of various ministries under the coordination of the District Commissioner (DC) assisted by the District Development Officer (ODO) and members of the District Planning Team. The plan is a product of broad-based consultation among various stakeholders in the district. It has been prepared in line with Vision 2030 with its theme being "A Globally Competitive and Prosperous Kenya". To achieve this theme, the district vision will be to be an economically prosperous district with high quality life for all the residents, and the mission to ensure effective and participatory development process that guarantees high and sustainable economic growth through promotion of community participation and  environmental conservation" It articulates medium term policies and objectives, which are further, translated into short-term strategies and programmes to be implemented under the Medium Term Plan of the Vision 2030 and the medium term expenditure framework (MTEF).
