Vihiga County Integrated Development Plan 2018-2022

Abstract

This CIDP was developed around seven priority areas that will provide the focus for implementation in the next five years. The priority areas include promotion of good governance and eradicating corruption in the county; developing an educated, skilled and knowledgeable society; creating opportunities for youth employment and wealth creation through Agri-business, Entrepreneurship, Technology and Innovation; Promoting primary healthcare and clean water and sanitation as the foundation for a healthy County; Developing local industry, strategic partnerships and a reliable transport and communication infrastructure network to spur growth in the county; Promoting Sustainable development and Conservation of our Environment and promoting County unity and public participation in government-led development initiatives. The CIDP will lay more emphasis on the implementation of the big four development programmes prioritized by His Excellency the President, namely; Universal Healthcare, affordable housing, manufacturing and food security. During the plan period, Green Economy strategies that aim at reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities will be pursued. Production, that is, low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive will be adopted. To this end, the County shall promote use of solar energy, biogas production technology, organic farming, sustainable infrastructural development and natural resource management.
