Kisumu County Environment Policy 2019

Abstract

The process of formulating this policy was initiated in 2018 by the directorate of policy and research under the department of Water, Irrigation, Environment and Natural Recourses through a participatory and consultative process that involved engagement with the public and various stakeholders. This culminated in the production of the County Environment Policy, 2019. It is the responsibility of the county government of Kisumu through the department responsible for environmental issues to ensure that policies are reviewed and formulated to meet the aspirations of the Constitution and emerging issues in the management of the environment for prosperity. Such a policy should aim at providing a holistic framework to guide the management of the environment and natural resources in Kisumu County. It should further ensure that environment is mainstreamed in all county government policies in order to facilitate and realize sustainable development at all levels. This policy help promote green economy, enhance social inclusion, improve human welfare and create opportunities for employment and maintenance of a healthy ecosystem.
