    Abstract/Overview

    This Sessional Paper is, the Governments response to the Report of the Presidential Committee, on Unemployment, 1982,/ 83, which was ,appointed by His Excellency the President to examine the problem of unemployment and to recommend both short and long-term strategies for its alleviation. Specifically ,the Committee was required to consider and recommend measure which would stimulate economic growth ,in both the public and private sectors, disperse employment opportunities to areas of greatest need, promote labor intensive methods of production, reduce the growth of the labor force and its migration to urban areas, improve the relevance of •training and education with a view to alleviating the school-leaver problem, initiate ,and expand programmes with a high employment content and at low cost, and suggest measures which would enhance the contribution of public and private sector institution to employment creation...
