Abstract/ Overview
This policy brief summarizes the key findings of the research work undertaken by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission and the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) and published on JRC/EC website1. The study examines the short-term effects on Kenya’s economy and the effects of the COVID-19 measures taken by the Government to cushion the economy and her people from the impact of COVID-19. Since the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Wuhan, China in November 2019, the virus has been reported in all African states, with Lesotho being the last African country to report a COVID-19 case. In the first eight months since the onset of the pandemic, businesses, economies and people’s livelihoods have been disrupted globally. The world economies now face a grim future as cases and deaths continue to increase daily across the world, with some countries experiencing a second wave of COVID-19.
