This policy brief is based on the proceedings of a KIPPRA conference on Improving the Enabling Environment for Business in Kenya: Reducing the Costs of Doing Business. The conference was held on 20th January 2005. Participants were mainly drawn from Government and the private sector.en
An enabling environment for business improves investment climate and competitiveness of a country, thereby enhancing economic performance for eventual poverty reduction. In this regard, the Government of Kenya in its Economic Recovery Strategy for Wealth and Employment Creation (2003-2007) has emphasized on improving the environment for doing business to facilitate growth of private sector activities and achieve the targets set for economic growth of about 7 percent. However, despite various efforts made to improve the business environment, there are still issues that constrain the growth of investment and the country's competitiveness.en
