The Mariakani Milk Scheme was established in 1948 by the Veterinary Department to enable the disposal of milk produced by Africans in Kwale and Kilifi Districts for which purpose of pasteurization plant was erected in at Mariakani from funds provided by the Development and Reconstruction Authority.
