Abstract/ Overview
In response to the challenges and opportunities posed by climate change, Kenya has developed this National Climate Change Response Strategy. The vision of the Strategy is for a prosperous and climate change resilient Kenya. The mission is to strengthen and focus nationwide actions towards climate change adaptation and GHG emission mitigation. This will be achieved by ensuring commitment and engagement of all stakeholders while taking into account the vulnerable nature of Kenya’s natural resources and society. The objectives are to: enhance understanding of the global climate change regime: the negotiation process, international agreements, policies and processes and most importantly the positions Kenya needs to take in order to maximise beneficial effects of climate change; assess the evidence and impacts of climate change in Kenya; recommend robust adaptation and mitigation measures needed to minimise risks associated with climate change while maximising opportunities; enhance understanding of climate change and its impacts nationally and in local regions; recommend vulnerability assessment, impact monitoring and capacity building framework needs as a response to climate change; recommend research and technological needs to respond to climate change impacts, and avenues for transferring existing technologies; recommend a conducive and enabling policy, legal and institutional framework to combat climate change, and provide a concerted action plan coupled with resource mobilisation plan and robust monitoring and evaluation plan to combat climate change....
