Abstract/ Overview
Food security is basic to the survival of any nation, not to mention any family or individual. Accordingly, within the list of national, family or individual goals, that of food security should have top priority since no meaningful development in economic, social or cultural spheres is possible without food security. An economy based on agriculture, as is the case in Kenya, must allocate sufficient resources to its agricultural sector to ensure that national food security is achieved, through self-sufficiency in the production of basic food commodities and the generation of foreign exchange which can be used for the importation of other foods, and the occasional importation of basic food when the need arises.
