dc.description.abstract | The Corona virus disease
(COVID-19), which was first
reported in Wuhan China in
December 2019, has since spread
rapidly to almost every part of the world.
The disease was declared a pandemic
by the World Health Organization
(WHO) on the 11th March 2020 due
to the alarming rate of increase in
number of new cases and fatalities
reported. In Kenya the first incidence
of the disease was reported on March
13th 2020 and mitigation measures
were put in place to curb the disease
spread. COVID-19 pandemic not only
threatens people’s health, but also
threatens food security and nutrition
for millions of people across the world.
Food security depend on availability,
accessibility, utilization and stability,
any disruption of these pillars renders
populations food insecure. The social
and economic strain brought about by
the mitigation measures has potential
to impact negatively of the four tenets
of food security thus rendering people
food insecure. | en |
