dc.description.abstract | This study conducted by the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) examines the socio-economic status of Elgeyo Marakwet County in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through a comprehensive mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative insights from interviews and focus group discussions, the research explores the impacts and challenges faced by the county's population during this global health crisis. The analysis encompasses various socio-economic indicators, including household income, employment patterns, access to healthcare, education, and social support systems. Findings indicate significant socio-economic disruptions within Elgeyo Marakwet County due to COVID-19. Lockdown measures, mobility restrictions, and reduced economic activities have led to a decline in household incomes, with vulnerable communities being particularly affected, exacerbating existing disparities in the region. In response to the challenges posed by COVID-19, the study identifies various coping mechanisms and resilience factors within the community, such as social solidarity, local initiatives, and adaptive strategies employed by individuals and businesses to mitigate the adverse effects of the pandemic. | en |
