The development of the ESD Policy was through a participatory process involving key stakeholders, including government agencies, the private sector, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the media. Hence the ESD Policy has received high acceptability and ownership, which is a good indicator for a successful integration of ESD across all sectors. It is expected that the ESD Policy will contribute to outcomes that spearheads protection and conservation of natural resources in the country. Given that the Kenyan economy is driven by agriculture and natural resources, the sustainable use of resources is therefore very important to ensure economic growth and development that is sensitive to the environment. The ESD Policy provides a very crucial nexus between the Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology who will jointly spearhead its implementation. The Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources, therefor~, welcomes the ESD Policy as it will improve education through formal, informal and non-formal learning to enhance implementation of sustained development across sectors. It is expected that the ESD Policy will steer a major re-orientation of education in the country and greatly enrich the current education policy. I urge all stakeholders to develop and implement their specific sector ESD strategies in order to pull together towards enhancing sustainable development for Kenya.en_US
