Consequent upon the growth of the medical services rendered by the Missions during recent years and in view of the importance of co-ordinating their activities with those of Central and Local Government, the Minister for Health set up a Committee in March, 1959, to advise on these matters. The terms of reference of the Committee were as follows: To consider the role of the medical services rendered by the Missions in relation to those provided by Central and Local Government; To make recommendations to the Minister with regard to the efficient operation of Mission hospitals and to advise on the criteria to be used to determine the form and degree of assistance that may be needed now and in the future. The recommendations made by the Committee have been carefully considered by the Government and are accepted with the exception of the provisos set out hereunder. The overriding factor in considering some of the recommendations is the financial implications arising therefrom and the adoption by Government of certain of the recommendations will have to be governed by the availability of finance.en
