Abstract/ Overview
This Policy Brief is based on the Kenya Economic Report 2022, themed “Building Resilience and Sustainable Economic Development in Kenya”. The Report analyses the contexts, policies and institutional frameworks that support sustainable development by building resilience across various sectors of the economy. The report covers a review of recent macroeconomic performance and discusses the Kenya’s medium-term prospects. It focuses on building resilience for manufacturing, trade, livestock in arid and semi-arid lands, and creative economy. It also covers digital economy, national values, governance, and science, technology and innovation as key drivers in building resilience. As such, the scope of the report interphases the pillars of economic resilience (macroeconomic stability, social-economic development, institutions/good governance), the pillars of the Kenya Vision 2030 (economic, social and political), and the targets of the Sustainable Development Goals that seek to build resilience and nurture the required transformations through science, technilogy and innovation, and the digital economy.
