dc.description.abstract | Tana River County is one of the counties in the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP) economic bloc. The county has an estimated population of 315,943 people of which 50.1 per cent were male and 49.8 per cent female (KNBS, 2019) as indicated in table 1. Of the population 4,040 (1.5 per cent) are persons with disability. The youth constituted 32.0 per cent of the population of whom 51.0 per cent were female. The County has a population density of 8 persons per km2. About 76.0 per cent of the population live in rural areas of whom 49.8 per cent are female. The elderly population (65 years and above) make up 3.1 per cent of the total population of whom 51.9 per cent were female. The population in school going age group (4-22 years) was 51.2 per cent in 2019. | en |
