dc.description.abstract | The District Development Plan for Mwingi District (1997-2001) was prepared under the coordination of the District Commissioner and the District Planning Unit, with the active involvement of Departmental Heads from various ministries. The plan was discussed by the District Executive Committee and approved by the District Development Committee. The Rural Planning Department, a part of the Office of the Vice President and Ministry of Planning and National Development, provided guidance, formulated guidelines, and oversaw the editing and publication of the plan. The plan is structured into three chapters, focusing on the theme of "Rapid Industrialization for Sustainable Development." Chapter One provides background information on the district's natural and human resource base, their exploitation levels, welfare indicators, and socio-economic infrastructure. Chapter Two outlines the major constraints to industrialization and the strategies to achieve rapid industrialization. Chapter Three presents the prioritized projects and programs for each sector, selected by the District Development Committee. The plan was developed in line with Sessional Paper No. 1 of 1994 and other relevant national and sectoral policy documents. | en |
