Abstract/ Overview
This study, conducted by the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA), investigates the socio-economic status of Narok County in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative data analysis and qualitative insights from interviews and focus group discussions, the research aims to comprehend the impacts and challenges faced by the county's population during this unprecedented global health crisis. The analysis encompasses a wide range of socio-economic indicators, including household income, employment patterns, access to healthcare, education, and social support systems. The findings reveal significant socio-economic disruptions within Narok County due to COVID-19. Lockdown measures, mobility restrictions, and reduced economic activities have resulted in a decline in household incomes, with vulnerable communities experiencing disproportionate impacts, exacerbating pre-existing disparities in the region. The research findings provide valuable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and development agencies, guiding evidence-based interventions to address the socio-economic repercussions of COVID-19 in Narok County.
