Abstract/ Overview
The National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP), 2018-2022, is a five-year plan that helps Kenya adapt to climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Climate Change Act, 2016 requires the Government to develop action plans to guide the mainstreaming of climate change into sector functions (See Box 1). The Act is the first climate change-dedicated legislation in Africa and is the legal foundation of this action plan. NCCAP 2018-2022 aims to further Kenya’s development goals by providing mechanisms and measures that achieve low carbon climate resilient development. A low carbon climate resilient development pathway emphasises sustainable development and prioritises adaptation, recognising the importance of increasing the climate resilience of vulnerable groups, including women, youth, persons with disabilities, and marginalised and minority communities.
