Abstract/ Overview
Education systems the world over have evolved to ensure that quality lies at their core whilst also ensuring that the prevailing needs of society are addressed. Quality and sustainable education is a transformative force and a backbone for development in society. All the building blocks of development and society advancement require some form of education to thrive hence the importance of quality education cannot be over-emphasized. The future of the globe rests firmly in how our education systems are designed to not only provide essential skills but also to adapt to the ever-changing dynamics in today’s society. The strategies to attain quality education differ from state to state or from region to region and they depend on a myriad of factors though the objective remains the same: ensuring that education is inclusive, accessible and imparts the necessary skills for sustainable development. In Kenya, the education system consists of basic education (pre-primary, primary and secondary) and tertiary (TVETS, university, college). The education curriculum has evolved into a competency-based curriculum which focuses on skills and attitudes that learners need to apply in their professional life. It shifts the education practice from teacher-centered approaches to learnercentered approaches.
