Abstract/ Overview
Narok County is in Narok-Kajiado Economic Bloc (NAKAEB). The county has an estimated population of 1,157,873 people of whom 49.3 per cent were male and 50.6 per cent female (KNBS, 2019) as indicated in table 1. The population of persons with disabilities was 9,046 (0.9 per cent). The youth constituted 33.0 per cent of the population of whom 51.0 per cent were female. The County has a population density 65 per km2. The elderly population (age 65 years and above) made up 2.4 per cent of the total population of whom 51.6 per cent were female. The population in school going age group (4-22 years) was 52.7 per cent in 2019. In 2015/2016, the overall poverty rate in Narok County was 22.6 per cent against the national poverty rate of 36.1 per cent. In addition, 22.4 per cent of the population were living in food poverty and 75.8 per cent were living in multidimensional poverty, which means deprivation in several dimensions including health care, nutrition and adequate food, drinking water, sanitation and hygiene, education, knowledge of health and nutrition, housing and standard of living, and access to information. According to KDHS 2014, 32.5 per cent of the children were stunted as compared to the average national level at 26.0 per cent.
